GO-TO DRESS

When is the last time you've made a dress and then you made it again, and then you made it one more time? This is what happens when you find a great pattern, perfect fabric and you feel fabulous in the finished project. McCall Pattern #7802 is a dress pattern that I fell in love with, so much that I made it 3 times in great fabrics and two of them were special occasion dresses. It's a lined bodice with a deep front vee and an invisible back zipper and full skirt in 6 panels. I've even modified the skirt to bring it in a little (black lace) and the waist band is the place to make design choices (white sequin). The pattern is easy even for a beginner, so try it out when you can. The pics below are not the best because I just went straight to the party without staging fashion pics - the dress shows itself and got many compliments.

BLACK LACE/RED TULLE - my high school colors! This was my choice for DM Therrell High School's Annual Masquerade Ball. I thought everyone would be doing the red and black thing, but I was sooooo wrong. It was just like any other party - so why did I do this? It was fun making a red underskirt for the see-through black lace. FABRIC: black lace and red stretch tulle from Joann's. PURPLE BEADED SHOES: Von Maur sale room! MASK: Joanns Halloween gear, I added red beading to the sides and front.

WHITE KNIT/SEQUIN WAIST BAND - as the Host of Diner en Blanc Atlanta, I needed a white dress in the midst of planning the event and I needed a go-to pattern and of course this was it. Didn't know how the knit would hold up and I really want something more blingy for the waist and it all came together. It was comfortable and it flowed and the split was perfect. FABRIC: white mid-weight knit from Fine Fabrics Atlanta. SEQUIN: Joann's remnant bin (50% off!)

BLUE WHITE SUMMER KNIT - early, early Spring I ran across this fabric at Fabric Joint in Decatur GA on Memorial Drive. John asked me to do a promotion on social media and giveaway 6 yards of fabric and selected this print and a solid. After the giveaway was so popular, I went back and purchased more for my self. This fabric is so feminine and sexy and flowy, would make any garment a hit. I think one day my BFF who is a Zeta will steal it.

My ride or die, down like four flats, my first love, my brother and Diner en Blanc Atlanta Co-Host Keith

Stay tuned, I may do a tutorial on this dress. The lined bodice is easier than you think.

Thanks for the love - NKY-G
